There is no doubt that many people love to wear sports apparel. There is no exception for devoted fans of tennis. No other sport has affected the way people dress more than tennis and it really shows now more than ever before. Since the 1970s, people have adopted tennis apparel, wearing tennis shoes and socks in every-day life. It became a craze a few decades ago. Back in the early stages of adoption, a person could not walk down the street without seeing someone dressed in tennis shorts and a pair of striped socks that were pulled up to the knees.

There are still a great number of places to purchase tennis apparel. No place in the country has as many outlets as California. If you are looking for the best outlets to purchase tennis apparel in LA, look no further than the famous downtown area. People looking for the latest tennis fashions for either personal or professional use will find hundreds of great shops downtown, stocked to the brim with sports apparel. Checking your local listings will also help you to find the right shops for you. This is especially important to remember, since pricing will be different depending on the area.

The best entity in Los Angeles to fine tune your tennis abilities or even tap into talent that has never been cultivated is through the city. City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks. Tennis games of all levels are played on Chevy Chase Drive in LA, call for details. A lot of LA county and city parks have city maintained courts, and can be utilized for free. The city and county of Los Angeles, has and conducts tennis leagues for children and adults. They are offered throughout the area all through the city, in many parks. The fabled tennis playing sisters, Serena and Venus Williams first started playing tennis in Compton, CA. They played in parks and leagues that were sponsored by the Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks.

The Los Angeles Tennis Association, sponsors leagues for players of all ages and skill levels. Team tennis is a group that is organized to play games every week, throughout the year. It’s organized in way that sets the matches up, with like skilled players. For instance, beginners against beginners etc. The teams are composed of players of all levels and ages. Each team has 8 players on it. The team’s individual players, have all different skills. That allows for equal match ups in all games. If a person can not commit to a weekly schedule they can sign up to play in the team league as a substitute player. This person stands in for a regular team member who for any reason can not play their scheduled game. The substitute players, end up laying lots of games, and are able to excel too, even though they are not necessarily considered regular players. There is a ‘ranking day’ set up before the games are scheduled to evaluate everyone’s ranking.

Sure you could sit home all day watching matches on your direct tv but why not get out and play in one of the greatest tennis cities in the world? LA has a wide assortment of public course and we’ve put together a short list of our favorites for you:
Encino Park: One of the best free parks in the city, Encino Park has a full assortment of tennis courts for you to use at no charge. The part of town is fine during the day but let someone know if you’re playing at night.
Lakeview Terrace Recreation Center: These indoor courts are often full but if you don’t mind a wait they’re a great place to practice. They’re free, too, so why not enjoy some indoor tennis after work?
Ritchie Valens Park: Named for one of Hollywood’s greats, Ritchie Valens park has everything you need including backboards for solo practice. Some courts may be reserved for match or lesson play though so call ahead to see what’s available when you want to head over for a match.

Tennis is a sport that many people play for fun because they know that there chances of playing professionally are slim to none. There are some people who have become very successful tennis players by turning their hobby into a profession. A few of them came from the Los Angeles area.

Bill Glotz had a very successful tennis career and was inducted into the Los Angeles Tennis Players Hall of Fame in 1996. Before Venus and Serena Williams, Karen Hankison was one of the top-female tennis players. She was inducted into the Los Angeles Tennis Players Hall of Fame in the 1990′s. She was also named female player of the 90′s.

Rich Stanley was one of the most successful male tennis players of all time. He was inducted into the Los Angeles Tennis Players Association in the 1990′s. Hilary Kildwell is one of the newest female tennis players. She was inducted into the Los Angeles Hall of Fame in 2006 and received the Slice of Life Award.

It was once said that Los Angeles is the city that makes many people’s dreams come true. The tennis players that were inducted into the hall of fame dreamed of going pro and that dream came true for them.

Los Angeles, California is the kind of city that has everything. Whether you’re a country club member or a hardcore athlete playing on public courts, there is a huge tennis scene in L.A.. If you’re looking for a place to buy tennis equipment and run into like minded players, you can head in just about any direction. Sorry to say, East L.A. is lacking tennis shops but anywhere from Glendale and Pasadena all the way out to Santa Monica, the greater L.A. area has plenty to choose from. Starting in San Marino and working your way toward the coast, you can find the San Marino Tennis Ctr as well as Tennis Unlimited in San Gabriel. Visit Racket Doctor if you’re in the area of Glendale Boulevard. These three shops do a great job of serving the Northeast area of L.A.

Once you get closer to Beverly Hills, the shops get bigger, and more frequent. Some of the best choices in the Beverly Hills area are Merchant of Tennis, on South La Cienega Boulevard, and Pate Martin’s Tennis & Sports, on South Robertson. Westwood Sporting Goods, on Gayley Avenue, is also a full service tennis shop, despite the general purpose sound of it’s name.

The greater Los Angeles area is full of stores and pro shops for tennis players. Whether you’re a beginning tennis player or a pro, here are a few of the best pro shops to check out for service and equipment.

The Racket Doctor, on Glendale Blvd, has been serving the area for more than 40 years. They offer everything you need for equipment and they also service and repair raquets.

If you’re in the Culver City area and you need restringing on a raquet, contact String King. It’s a small operation and doesn’t carry retail equipment but it’s well known in the area as the best place to get repairs and restringing.

The Beverly Hills area boast larger shops with a wider variety of high end products, as well as gear for kids and beginners. One of these great Beverly Hills shops is Merchant of Tennis. It’s located on La Cienega, in a convenient, close location for those who play or take lessons at Beverly Hills Tennis.

A bit further West, you can find Westwood Sporting Goods. Westwood is a full-service tennis pro shop. You can find all the gear you need, or get your racket restrung and tuned up.
